THREE LEVELS OF INSPECTION

Chimney inspections are crucial for keeping your home safe and your fireplace working efficiently. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 211) outlines three levels of chimney inspection, each designed for different situations. We're happy to talk to you about each service in detail to ensure you get what's best for you and your home.

✅ Level 1: Basic Annual Inspection

Best for: Regular annual maintenance with no changes to your system.

  1. Visual inspection of accessible areas (interior & exterior)

  • Check for creosote buildup, obstructions, and structural integrity
  • Examination of flue, chimney cap, firebox, and connections
    Why it matters:
Ensures your chimney is safe and ready for use each year.

🏠 Level 2: Real Estate or Post-Event Inspection

Best for:

  • Buying or selling a home
  • After a chimney fire, earthquake, or severe weather
  • When changing fuel types or installing a new liner/appliance
  • Includes everything in Level 1
  • Internal video scan of the flue system
  • Inspection of attic, basement, and crawlspaces near the chimney
    Why it matters:
Provides a deeper look to uncover hidden issues and ensure safety during changes or transfers of ownership.

  🛠️ Level 3: Advanced / Investigative Inspection

Best for: When a serious issue is suspected or discovered in a Level 1 or 2 inspection.

  • Includes all components of Levels 1 & 2
  • May require removal of parts of the chimney or building to access concealed areas
  • Used to investigate structural damage, chimney fires, or hidden hazards
    Why it matters:
Uncovers dangerous conditions that can't be seen with standard inspections
